Who We Are

Historical Background

Makati Elementary School through the years

Makati Elementary School was established in the early 1920’s and is usually alluded to as a “bundok” because it is nestled on a high place. Its total land area was 7,157 sq. m.. It was then acquired by the government for a total cost of P2,058,600.00. The school used to be the only elementary school as per account of Makati residents who belonged to the first batch of graduates.

During the Second World War, the surrounding towns - including Makati - were devasted from the war time. The school and surrounding towns were collateral damage in the process. Soon after, through the concerted efforts of its government officials, the town and Makati Elementary School rose again. During the MId-50s, a big building made of semi-permanent material was erected. This housed grades III, IV, and V classes. In addition, Mayo Maximo Estrella constructed the I shaped to accommodate grades I, II, IV pupils.

Today, Makati Elementary School has evolved as one of the best public schools in the City. It is a non-central school offering complete elementary education. It follows and implements the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) as prescribed by the Department of Education (DepED). To ensure effective and efficient delivery of basic education services, it is complemented with modern facilities and ancillary services manned by competent and committed staff.

This also gave birth to the Division of Makati which opened its doors to the public on June 1, 1994. Dr. Corazon D. Santiago became its first Division Superintendent. In 1998, after Dr. Santiago was promoted as Regional Director of the National Capital Region, Ms. Elena R. Ruiz has assumed the Office of Schools Division Superintendent in 1999.
